Elisi Pan Piano Duo
Italian-born American pianist Enrico Elisi and British pianist Mengyang Pan, born in China, have formed a dynamic piano duo that has already captivated audiences around the globe with its compelling performances and versatile programs. Renowned for their expressive musicality, Mr. Elisi and Ms. Pan are beginning to leave a mark on the collaborative keyboard scene, establishing a unique voice in their repertoire.
Mengyang Pan is a piano professor at the Royal College of Music and a chamber music coach at the RCM Junior Department in London (UK). Based in Fort Worth (USA), often referred to as 'Piano City' for its connection to the renowned Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Steinway Artist Enrico Elisi is the Harold D. and Imogene Herndon Endowed Professor of Music in Piano at Texas Christian University. His impactful teaching career, among other South Korean and USA institutions, includes positions at the University of Toronto and the Eastman School of Music.
Hailing from diverse backgrounds, Elisi and Pan share a passion for collaborative music. Despite each member's distinct solo and teaching pursuits and the geographical distances defining their careers, the duo exemplifies a profound artistic dedication to collaborative music.
The Elisi-Pan duo's achievements include appearances at the Conero International Piano Festival (Italy), the Texas State University Guest Recital Series, the Steinway Gallery in Austin, Meng Hall at California State Fullerton (USA), the Steinway Hall Shun Yi, and the Cavendish Concert Hall in Beijing (China) as well as recitals in Goethehaus in Jakarta (Indonesia), Tsing-Wha University Festival of the Arts in Hsinchu (Taiwan), and Cheltenham Ladies College (UK), demonstrating a commitment to sharing its music-making with wide-ranging audiences.
The duo's repertoire, spanning various genres and periods, provides a varied and captivating musical experience, featuring a dynamic alternation between pieces for two instruments, those for four hands, and solo compositions. For the 2024-25 season, its two-piano program features works by Mozart, Schumann, Grieg, and Milhaud; its four-hand selections include compositions by Beach, Brahms, Chaminade, Debussy, Fauré, Stravinsky, Poulenc, Piazzolla, and Schubert, offering a rich mosaic of musical styles.
Additionally, the duo is often invited for residencies at universities and conservatories worldwide, presenting various pedagogical projects such as "Effective Memorization Strategies for Pianists — Mental Practice Workshop," "Piano Duo Open Rehearsal Workshop," "Know thyself, become yourself," "Echoes of Progress: Traversing Piano Pedagogy from Beijing to Britain," "Maurizio Pollini the Champion of New Music: The Ideology of Modernism in Music," and "Inheriting the Tradition: A Journey from Artur Schnabel to Leon Fleisher."
